schools -- baltimore city schools today due to the harry and jeanette wineberg undation. they are having a huge event hosting a grand opening of the first of three school libraries. so right now abc2 news sherrie johnson is live with more on what's happening and why this is so exciting. >> reporter: well, yes, we are here live at the thomas johnson elementary middle school and south baltimore where in few hours there's going to be the grand unveiling. not only here at this school but two other schools to make it three new libraries total. and this morning, i have lyanne with me who has two sons one inpre-k and first grade. tell me about what you think about this library project and the fact the schools get the new libraries. >> i think it's incredible. especially for the city where we sometimes feel like we are forgotten the but this is bringing such a positive buzz to the neighborhood. we are getting 4,000 new bucks a pretty shiny new library where the kids can go in and experience learning. >> reporter: what do you think about the wineberg foundationteaming with up community partners t

was wrestled away from a baltimore county middle school, a student was taken into custody about joking about having a gun. the 15-year-old had been put in a timeout room when he told the staff he had a weapon, then he said he was kidding about having a gun. police were called to the school and took the teen into custody. he has been charged with disorderly conduct. >>> the teen accused of shooting a student on the very first day of school at perry hall high school will have his bail hearing. he is scheduled to appear before a judge at 9:30 tomorrow morning. police say gladden brought a handgun to school, assembled it and fired shots in the cafeteria, hitting a classmate. >> with all this stuff going on, we touched on this topic yesterday after the second violent incident in as many weeks and we talked about the effects it can have on a child. >> interestingly, some of the research suggests when children see news reports about an even, they think every time they see that report, it's happened again. so that actually speaks to the job of the parents and communities to limit exposure to these k

students in jeopardy. he was trying to escape the officer. tucked in a parking lot, a baltimore county police officer spotted a suspicious car. after he ran the tag and discovered it was stolen, it set into emotion a series of events that would end in gun fear. >> when he approached the vehicle, the driver moved in an attempt to flee, almost striking the officer. the officer used his service weapon and fired upon the vehicle. >> struck by a bullet, the suspected car thief sped away from the scene but he wouldn't get far. >> officers canvassed the area, were able to find it in the parking lot of the high school. this is away from the school, near the football stadium. we believe it has nothing to do with the high school. >> reporter: paramedics transported the suspect to shock trauma. meanwhile, an investigation continues into the shooting and the unnamed officer has been placed on administrative duty. the car was reported stolen. there were no citizens endangered in that light. jeff hague are, abc2 news. >>> some tense moments at the forbush school. a 15-year-old boy told staff
